Graduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology
The graduate program in Sociology and Anthropology (PPGSA) aims to form high level professors and researchers. The program offers a Masters degree in Sociology (with a concentration in Anthropology) and a PhD degree in Human Sciences (Sociology) or a PhD degree in Human Sciences (Cultural Anthropology).
The program integrates Sociology and Anthropology through teaching and research approaches, while still maintaining the particular disciplinary contributions of the two fields. Research topics emphasize diverse professional and disciplinary methods and knowledge and encourage debate over canonical questions in the Social Sciences.
Members of the teaching faculty, made up of sociologists and anthropologists, all equally participate in research, teaching, and advising theses and dissertations, the topics of which favor complex approaches to social questions.
The Graduate Program in Sociology and Anthropology is an integrated part of the Institute of Philosophy and Social Sciences (IFCS) at the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ). The program has as resources the ample stacks of the IFCS library with close to 60 thousands titles specializing in Social Sciences, History and Philosophy, and a computer lab.
